I'm in the market for a practical book about online marketing (beyond PPC). A quick search on amazon and it's obvious that there are many choices. I know about the bread and butter: linking to boost PR, directory submissions, web analytics (keywords, testing). Is there anything substantial I'm missing that I could get from a book? Or do I just need to keep grinding it out
Hi there, The problem is your asking a pretty broad question. Online marketing covers a massive amount of ground. Specifically what is it you want to do? Affiliate Marketing? Bum Marketing? Product Creation? Free Lancing? I would say the first thing you need to do is narrow down your field of interest and then ask more specific questions about how to move forward. Rob
Thanks for the reply Rob, you make a good point. There is no specific marketing technique I have a preference for, what I am looking for is some guidance on the best marketing techniques to devote my time to. Rather than a book on affiliate marketing, I'm looking for one that can direct a one-man team to the right places. Be it outsourcing directory submissions, to hiring a full-time seo specialist. Something akin to a good "small online business owner guide". My goal: I have a new community focused site, and I would like to know the most efficient techniques to generate traffic. Atm, I'm starting to think that it means outsourcing the grunt work that's described here at DP.
Many of the things you find in marketing books being sold can be found in forums if you look hard enough. You can also find great info on blogs. If you want my advice, don't keep buying the latest secrets becuase they are all just the same thing repackaged and sold again with a new sales page. If you are just looking to generate traffic, I would make use of a lot of social networks like MySpace, YouTube, Squidoo and HubPages and build content that will draw people to your main website. You can also write articles for long term traffic from the search engines and article directories and start putting a link to your site in your signature on forums.
