Long story very short - I got scammed out of a very large sum of money by someone I know. Legally I can't pursue him (it was a verbal agreement by someone I thought I knew, no point in pointing my fault out to me again). Anyways, I now built up a little website dedicated to him. With pictures of him and what he did, with proof. I want to print out the domain name along with a picture of him on a full sheet of paper a few hundred times, and spread it around his town. He lives in a small town where pretty much everyone knows everybody and I know this'd caus quite some uproar - at least enough to get his attention. My question is "IS THIS LEGAL!?". I'm in germany right now, if that helps any, and the domain name is (in german) "Firstname-Lastname-The-Scammer.info" Any help with this guys? Thanks
well if you dont have proof, then its slander. and he can also sue you for harassment. but you say you have proof , but is it admissable in court? either way, if you do this, expect a lawsuit
Proof to an extent, as I said its a stupidly long and boring story which I'd rather not post more about here. Regarding the lawsuit though, what if I did this on my last day in the country before moving back to the US for good..?
i wouldnt know about that. I guess he would try to sue you, but you would obviously have to go to court there. imho , if he screwed you over that bad, and you are leaving the country, you can do it. It would be very difficult and tedious for him to chase after you for a slander/harassment suit EDIT : your not as legally handcuffed as you may think, verbal contracts are still valid contracts, just extremely hard to prove unless you had a witness, but contracts nontheless. If you had proof, I would contact an attorney (if it is worth it)
It would be libel rather than slander as it is printed not spoken. If the site already exists then the defamation has already occurred though by increasing the circulation of the site (ie printing it and displaying in the local area) you are going to increase both the risk that he finds out and the amount of compensation you have to pay. To be honest, the story doesnt really add up at all but I will bite anyway. If you have already been scammed by this person why do you now want to give them more money simply so you can have childish fun?
Oh no, I hope he finds out. The website is titled "Confront Me". Its got the story, and then his private mailing address as well as his phone number (home work and cell) and email address. Along with that a small note saying we can end this today, just stop hiding from me.
