Taken from DCT's blog: COPYWRITTEN BY MELLA LTD. What are your views about friendships on the internet? Do you have close friends online who you've never met yet feel like you've known them for years? Dct & I would love to hear your opinions and experiences...
I've met the coolest people online and met the coolest of those coolest in real life. But then again, I spend more time online than offline nowadays...
You can have online friends. Some friends that I first met in real life even turn into more online friends than offline sometimes.
I've met some cool people offline who I first met online. But it's always kind of weird to meet online first. People are never exactly what you expect them to be. It can turn out both way, as a positive and a negative surprise
I've met soooo many friends online and would definitely class them in the same friends bracket as my friends where I live. I even met my fiancee online as many of you will know. People who dont use the internet as much always find it a bit geeky when you talk about people you speak to online but I believe this is becoming less and less the case as more people are getting hooked to online communication. I would consider a lot of the folks at DP as friends and probably talk to some of you more than I talk to my own family lol
No kidding! Very true indeed. Almost emberrasing you know what's up with Toot's neighbours, Shawn's cats, AC's water pump, Weirfire's laptop etc. etc. but you don't have a clue about what your family is up to. And yeah I have those offline gone online friends too. Especially since moving to another country. Thanks god for e-mail, IM and Skype though. Just imagine the old days, writing everyone a letter by hand...
Oh, that reminds me... Yashi and Wiggly wanted me to tell you "what's up?" from them, and wanted to know when you guys are going to hang out again.
Yeah! and it doesnt get there for 2-6 months if it's long distance! My Grampa went to work in Canada for a year and half a little while before him and my Gran got married. They had to write to each other back then and I dont know how they managed to keep the relationship alive with all the distance for so long. They say that absence makes the heart grow fonder!
I'm a little busy but maybe when the new house is done I'll drop by and we can play cat and mouse again. That way they'll loose the home ground advantage so I at least stand a chance.
I assume that all of those things about how cool people are online are about me. Thank you guys. I feel the same way about all of you. But seriously, I have some friends that I originally met online that became great friends and I have some long term friends that I don't see very often, but that I talk to a lot online. I think after a while the lines start to blur.
Meeting people online rocks! Not only do I have friends from online (including my boyfriend), but that's also how I hooked up with my house cleaner, my hair stylist, and most of my clients. If I'm not on DP, then I'm probably cruising the posts on Craigslist.
I love your posts Mella! I have one "great closer to my heart even dearer than my own sister friend", that I talk to online all the time. We're 3000 miles apart but I've had the wonderful experience of meeting her and her family and becoming close with all of them. We met on the gayest game site ever about 6 years ago. It was a site that was privately run and the admins had decided that the word Butt was BAD! I've no idea how or why that decision was reached but it got us banned. OK...it got me banned...but we met because we both found it incredibly silly! I consider Noppid a good a friend..hey man..you were there even when I was being stupid. We met online and will most likely never look at each other eye to eye..doesn't change how I feel though. He's a friend for sure. Thanks Mell..again...damn you cheer me up.
Wow, Craigslist. I hope you're not responding to those "watch me get naked and wrestle an ostrich" posts. My online girlfriend is really hot. She's a model. I pay for all of her photo shoots. I can't wait until we actually met.
