Online Dating/Social Networking Scripts

I have been doing research for a few weeks on online dating and social networking scripts for a couple of clients. I have basically found that many companies offer the same scripts for both online dating and social networking (such as AbleDating & AbleSpace). I am still looking for the "hands-down best" script (which I still can't figure out), but has anyone used the same script for both online dating and social networking sites?

I'd rather buy 1 script and use it twice, but I do not know if one script is comprehensive enough for both online dating and social networking applications. Generally online dating and social networking sites are very similar, but they are not one in the same in my opinion and should be treated differently.

This is my short list for both categories so far:

    AbleDating/AbleSpace
    PHPFox
    Dolphin
    SocialEngine
    VLD Personals
    sPHPIzabi
    PG Dating Pro
    DZOIC Handshakes Professional
    OK PHP Spaces

Has anyone had experiences with any of these scripts?

As an owner of a social networking website that has over 5 millions hits a month I must say that you won't have much success with launching and promoting a website that is based off from a "turn key" system.

You must have an unique design, features, and concept. If you find a turn key solution that allows you to fully customize the design, that is great. But it still doesn't allow for unique functionality.

If you're serious about building a successful social networking website you should invest the time and money into an absolute custom website.

Yes, that is basically what my research has shown me. None of them really give an ideal set of features, which is why I am still undecided. We are considering commissioning a team of developers to build one. We had a couple of clients who wanted a quick turnaround on social networking sites, but if I had more time I would definitely have one custom built.

    Thanks for the advice

Actually Dolphin is very customizable and you can program in the features you need yourself. I have a very small site using this about 1000 members - I am probably not however as serious about the business, more of a hobbie and my site is free. Depends what you want...

Don't mean to be a negative poster but though Dolphin is clean and easy... I think it's one of the most plain looking community templates with very basic and exhausted features. I've seen so many horrible failing sites that use Dolphin to the point that no successful Dolphin site would stand out... You can usually tell it's a Dolphin community at first glance...

hmmm....thanks I will take a closer look at Dolphin. I've seen it slammed on this and other forums so I was skeptical. If it is easy to customize though then that's key. I am a developer and designer myself, and I also have a staff of designers and developers so changing designs and customizing things are no problem. For the most part I just need something I can get up quickly for client s who can't afford to pay the development costs involved with building a custom solution.

If you are a designer/programmer and you have a staff of developers then you shouldn't be looking at Community Builders. IMHO, "community builders" are tools for amateurs/hobbyists. They produce very cheesy simple sites. You will never find a community website housing hundreds of thousands of members that is based on a 'throw together a community solution'.

Communities are mostly basic database calls. Do you really need to use a community builder or community modules? Absolutely not. Why settle for limited capabilities when the sky can be your limit. You're a Developer...you are above these silly toys.

Yes that's true. It's just time I was contending with, but I think I have more time now and I found something that I built 2 years ago that can serve as a decent foundation so I think I will have my developers extend that to suit our needs.

I agree that I can't stand having to resort to these measures.

    Thanks for the advice!

If you don't mind the software and the videos/content being hosted on other servers, try The Village. It's free to use and the hosting is free. You can create your own niche MySpace/YouTube site and completely customize it so it doesn't look like a turnkey system.

I am using a PHPFOX script for http://www.peerhut.com

I can't tell if it's because the script sucks or that I just am not ready to have a social network site, but it seems the script is far from perfected. If you are going to route I recommend taking off PHPFOX from your list as a possibility to use unless you have very good funds to be able to payout to perfect it yourself.

I found it was a little high priced for the bugs it has.

All the posts(26) of Socialnetworker was reviewing negative abledating, absolutely is not an impartial review...

Someone who purchased multiple licenses of abledating could give me a licence abledating get that I can test on my site, and to review impartially?

So instead of pretending you want info on Abledating (as you are probably Abledating by the number of your posts lambasting me today) why dont you do a
google search and type in Abledating Scam where you can view alot of info on different forums and you will see a pattern, the good reviews are by Abledating with very few posts, bad Engliash grammar and praising Abledating as the second coming.

So go back to your hole you Russian Scamster
