What about doing a contest with a 6-month deadline to launch online businesses? The winner is the one who can prove he makes more money. Any idea? What do you think about the idea?
any rules? If someone can invest $10,000 he can most definately double it in a month and win the whole thing What's the prize?
That would be a good idea but there would need to be lots of rules Maybe the total NET income made (so if you invest more, you need to earn more, it's only fair )
The bigger question is why? What's the point? What's in it for you? Why would someone do this and share financial and other information with you?
Because it is the fun of the competition itself? An interesting challenge? An opportunity to prove yourself better than others? Another forum I am a member has run similar competitions and also ones on SEO - everyone is given the same search term to create a site for £10 in the pot to enter, £30 budget for what ever you want. All the money in the pot goes to the person who ranks the highest in google after 3 months.
Why would I care about proving myself to people I don't know? Am I in High School again? I get what you're saying. There's a certain demographic that might find this interesting and worthwhile. I'm not in this demographic and therefore I'm a boob. I'd agree with setting up investing limits. Otherwise your contest will be shot to hell in a minute.
Depends on your reason for being on the forum. Certainly on the other forum I am active on there is circa £75,000 ($150,000) of contracts for web work a year put up for public tenure plus an unknown amount via direct comms - we are not in the clique on the site but still have received a modest £10,000 via direct contact. Whilst it wouldnt be the only reason for a client selecting you if the whole forum is talking about how you were so much better at SEO etc than everyone else on the forum because you proved your abilities through the competition it certainly would help your chances of securing business. If you purpose is to have fun and no interest in bringing in work then there may be no desire for the competitive element if that isnt your thing
Its a very good concept of a site. I like it but I seriously don't think it can be done. Maybe there's another thing. Oh, I got it. You could have a site where people bet on what their next Pr is going to be. That would work more secure becuase no one really "knows" exspecially if there is 3 months until it.
Maybe a Vegas-like spread. Something like: PR Odds 0 4-1 1 3-1 2 2-1 3 1-1 4 2-1 5 5-1 6 40-1 7 150-1 8 500-1 etc
lol, Unless someone has a lot of time on their hands to set this whole thing up and organize it, I don't quite see it happening.
The less rules the better. The better the prize the more people will be interested. Don't judge it by income as no one can really prove that. Heres an idea. To enter the competition you must have a service to offer, if we get 50 people entering the competition thats a nice package of benefits for the winner. In my case I can create the winner a promotional video and give away a free subscription to my customer reciprocation service. The competition should be something simple to understand and hard to achieve. This will encourage lateral thinking and really test your entrepreneurial skills. For example the winner is the person who can get the most free exposure. For example you got mentioned on prime time news, featured on the front page of slashdot etc.. As a bonus.. each contestant must host a page on their site listing each of the other contestants with links to their sites. This way there's some benefit for all. Let me know what you think?
