My question is - As far as i know, if i have many links on the page (for example Home page) is better to make those links - "nofollow", for a reason not to share PR of my page, correct? Anyway, i always was thinking that way. But is it OK for Google? How does it take it? I dont see it makes something different for website by the way. Strange...... What is the point than? How must it help?

Also i saw many of Catalogs (directories) where you can see many - many of Links (on home page and all other pages) and they dont have "nofollow" but still, there PR could be 5.....

    Any thoughts?

Veronica, from my understanding the way Google perceives the use of no-follow is that if you are "pr sculpting" the link juice within your own website then that is not the appropriate use of the "no follow" tag. It should be reserved for outbound links to other websites in which you do not wish to pass pr juice.

If anyone has a different understanding, I'm open to other arguments...(never stop learning)

Here's the thing: If you are linking out from your website to someone else's website then you probably should you the no follow tag, unless it is a link-exchange agreement.

If you are linking out to another website you own or to other pages within the same website then you should allow the pr juice to follow. I think Google doesn't like blatant "pr sculpting".

Are you referring to the main directory page or the subpages of categories? Because you will notice a difference in Page Rank from the homepage to the category pages.

Links referring to the main pages always.

Ok, thanks everybody for the answers. As far as i understand, Google doesnt "put you down" when you have nofollow links. So is OK than, i can use it, will see how it goes. :)

Ya, You have to maintain a ratio in getting dofollow and nofollow links,
Say, if you get 100 dofollow links, you have to make sure that you are getting at least 10 nofollow links.

You should make the links "nofollow" that points outside of your domain. i.e. external / outbound links.

Pr sculpting and using nofollow was good until June or July of this year. Now, it does not do you any good at all. The PR you thought you are passing up to your other pages "just evaporates". In other words, you get 0 benefit.

This info comes from the Google guru Matt Cutts or Cults or whatever his name is.:) I read an excerpt from a Q & A period after their last conference and that is what he said.

You can probably Google it and find it somewhere. The bottom line is ""if you design your information and site architecture well, it's not something that you need to worry about at all...there's an opportunity cost to sculpting and that the vast majority of people would get more benefit from spending their time working on making their site more compelling (so they got more links/PageRank) rather than obsessing about how to move around the PageRank that they have."

    Hope this helps..

There's some DoFollow:NoFollow ratio, I believe its 100:10/10:100, forgot it.
