Not going to happen. The US is opposed, and has a veto at the IMF. China, while talking a big game, increased their holding of the US dollar by 38% in 2008. Watch what the Chinese do, not what they say.
Britain will not join it, it would mean we have less control over our monetary policies, we have a far greater amount of home owners than most other economies so being able to control our own intrest rates is essential to our economy. Its why we haven't and wont use the Euro.
I don't expect it to happen short term, but this is the way all unpopular political moves are effected. It starts with the idea being floated until there is enough support for it. What's significant, IMO, is that the issue is now openly being discussed and advocated. It's only a matter of time (and economics) before enough countries join the bandwagon. It's only just now getting started on it's journey.
It will be inevitable and is going to happen. Whether US has veto power in the IMF or not...... Fact is the world will not evolve around the US forever...
Don't be so sure about that chief. The game is only just starting and you really don't know where loyalties lies with these people.
