One Website or Mini Sites?

Hello and thank you in advance for your responses.

My wife and I have been running a small service business for over 5 years and we recently came upon an untapped niche in our industry we will like to explore.

We have found some niche keyword specific domains and have been contemplating building and optimizing a few specific mini sites that will backlink to our main site(blog) in order to reach a more targeted audience and help with the backlinks. It seems the more I research this concept the more confused I get. My question is the following:

Should we create a main blog, for example (not our niche): "BestHotelConferences.com" and have some (about 10) independently properly optimized sites(blogs) "HiltonConferences.com," "MarriottConferences.com," backlinking to our main blog or should we optimize these keywords on different pages within our main blog?

What are the pros and cons?
Which option will potentially bring more business?

    Hello,
    Thank you for posting.

In todays world of online marketing, it's really best to keep all of your focus on one site. It's best to build up and create one really great quality website, than what it is to have 100 sites of poor quality. Try focusing on your blog. If you and your wife would post a article, every other day, by taking turns (you post today and she post tomorrow) this will increase your exposure and assist in not only SEO, but reaching a more established targeteted market as well.

if you insist on the alternate opton, please be sure to put all sites on different hosting, you want to use a completely different theme on each, don't ever use same affiliate links or same content on those sites. you don't want to tie any of those sites together in any way what so ever.....

    have a great day,

This is my first post here but I'm not new to IM... That said I completely agree with GregorySmith, definitely go for the authority site model with a lot of high quality blog posts that entertain and educate! Personally I like to balance different post styles, for example, 3 low-traffic keyword targeted posts, 3 really high quality posts that educate and connect with the audience and then 1 or 2 fun fact and highly entertaining posts.

Keep creating content and as those posts get ranked, your traffic will grow with it.

I don't think building small mini sites that backlink to your main site will do all that much for SEO. The reason being is that you will need to backlink to the small mini sites as well for google to really value them. Your best bet would be to put all your focus and energy towards your main blog.
