    Yes, directory links are good sources of one way links, but it depends greatly on which directory your in..... If it is a good directory, it could help considerably.... If it's a garbage directory, it's likely to be worthless...

    One of the other ways to gain quality links is to contact webmasters of relevant websites and simply request a link. If your site is good and you are not competing with the site that you contact, they are frequently willing to give a link.

    The above is excellent advice. One way links can also be acheived from writing informative articles that get picked up by webmasters and placed on their sites. Just add a link to your website in the "about the author" section.

    directories / blogs and forum sigs are the easy ones to get.

    You could consider writing articles to do with your niche - most sites will give you a link if you let them use the article.

    Just be creative - you will find ways of getting them links :)

    I saw one interesting ad in Namepros where a person was offering bloggers some NP$ for posting a review of his products/website in their blogs...

    Many took it i believe.. the person also mentioned that an edit in the existing posts to replace specific words into links to his products will also be ok...

    neat...:)

    IMHO this strategy will be successful for noncommercial sites. But when I imagine that I will ask some webmaster to link to my web hosting service I don't believe that somebody will do it.

    Sorry, but I disagree that webmasters who like will give you a link without requesting one back - the majority of webmasters will expect a link in return.

    The best way to get good one way links is;

    Writing articles about your subject
    Submitting press releases
    Buying links on popular websites
    Directory submission
    Design a useful tool people can include on their site (with link to yourwebsite)

    Don't forget other methods exist such as link advertising networks.

    They have pretty much summed it up already.
