I am researching the idea of joining a link directory offering a one way link exchange, it cost about $50 month for 1000 links, such as gotlinks.com The only thing I'm worried about is being penalized for being a participant. Did anyone ever try and yield results? Who is for and who for against? On that note I was thinking about getting people to write blogs/article for us, does anyone know of the best website/service for that?
First, the links will be garbage, not revalent to your site, and not permanent Second, Google will penalize your for obtaining links to fast. As for content writers, that would be a better way to go but will cost more. PM me if you need a source.
Google is not fond of link exchange programs like the one you are planning to join. It's costlier to buy blog posts but it's one of the best ways I know. Look in Content Creation section and you will find a lot of article writers.

1000 links from one IP. It is not helpful. Better your purchase links from the blogs or the websites. The more beneficial is if you pay for the post in theme based blogs.
I have a doubt-- I heard from some where that if the link exchange happens from unrelevent site then there is a danger to page rank. Is it true??
So google can know what ip the blog/forum links coming from? Is there a way to avoid it? Maybe a program that constantly changes your IP?
