One of the best ways to get a new site started, I've found is by. Settling into a forum. If for example, you are making a site about Eminem, get yourself nicely signed up and tucked into a huge Eminem forum, the biggest you can find. Do this well before the site is built, when it's just an idea. Then over the period of about a month make a sort of... forum name for yourself, just be as helpful as possible, post regulary and make decent posts. Just so you completely set yourself aside from a spammer as forums normally dont like posts about sites, but this usually works. Whilst you're doing all this you should be gradually building your site, perfect everything, make sure it's packed and flawless. Next simply make a casual post about your site, don't make it spammy or like ''HEY LOOK AT THIS'' but just casual, if you have made a name for yourself as a regular and informative member most people will read it as they know 'you' normally post great posts. If you do this, you have just unleased your first big batch of perfectly targeted visitors to your brand new site. As long as your site is good enough, the true fans will naturally make a name for the site and do the work for you. I know this sounds really obvious advice but alot of people make the huge mistake of signing up to a forum and just slapping it in their sig, of course do that after, but do this first. Also alot of people post about their site straight away. It's essential you make regular informative and great posts first so people aknowledge you as a good poster. If you do it right, the interest in the site amongst the forum members should be fantastic and the good thing is once the post gets big enough, it never really goes away because with huge forums people are always signing up so new people will always see it so you've basically got a free semi-permanent ad on a gigantic forum. And they last, believe me, I've just got my first 30 uniques a day (regular) + by doing this. That's just from one forum and not even a big one. Just shows the potential if done to perfection, this along with SEO, myspace group adding, youtube advertising and word of mouth is impecable traffic. Good luck.
