Do you guys reckon it's better to stick with one niche, such as poker, and try to dominate certain keywords with a few different sites or to spread it out a bit and cover a few different sectors? I'm asking because there are only so many hours in the day and I'm trying to decide whether to focus on yet more poker sites or branch out and try a few different areas. It's relatively easy to create sites on a subject you're familiar with and have already done the majority of research, but is it a case of 'all your eggs in one basket'? Also I know other areas out of the gambling sector could be easier to market and I've heard it said a few times if you can make it in poker you can make it anywhere (SEO wise). The rewards may not be so great in other sectors but they 'appear' to be less competitive so a greater market share could be achieved with less effort? Which approach do you think would give the greatest rewards in the long run? Thoughts anyone?
I try to spread out, especially for marketing purposes. If your time is limited however, you may have answered your own question.
I prefer to spread the risk across a wide spectrum of niches, yes some niches are far better than others but some sectors can be cyclical.
If you're good at what you do, then one niche is a much better idea. After you learn the ins and outs of a given industry, you'll be a lot better at that industry than with other industries. If you're just starting out, you can try out a few things before you settle on one, but if you find something that works, stick with it!
I would say spread it out, but only to an extent. You would get more coverage with multiple niches, but keep them generally connected.
I think it really depends on your goals. But I have found that focusing on one niche makes it difficult to continuously come up with new source.
