Thanks guys! I already figured evertything out.
It was simple to keep the ids at import stage.
Then we did just rewrite some urls via mod_rewrite and everything went smooth.
XenForo is nice to work with, so far.

I am looking at the importer, we have 600gb of files in attachments does the importer at all mess with the vb4 attachments so I can install xenforo run a test update and test everything out before we make the final switch ?

Sorry to tell you, that our old forum didn't allow attachments. We were very strict regarding these things. The only kind of data that we used as attachments in some cases were some small images.
Btw. 600 Gigs of files is a LOT! Wow. Do you think that the importer would even finish when importing that load of data?
We had hundreds of thousands of threads and posts - but no files sorry.

    Edit:
Why don't you walk over to http://xenforo.com/community/ and ask the people over there? At least the programmers (Mike etc.) should have the answer for you?

The importer we built allows you to import all attachments without taking site down and then when you do your "real" import, it will just get new stuff and delete stuff that was deleted, so you don't need to do a full attachment import every time you test.

Sounds good, I was just talking about the web importer built into Xenforo.
That's what we used and was enough with the addition of a litte redirection script and a litte .htaccess file addition.
But your method sounds interesting too, digitalpoint.

Can't provide you with stats at the moment, as we are currently implementing some other things, as out site is deeply wired with the forum and vice versa - so we expect to be finished soon, but we're on our way.
But the xf based new forum runs great, everything is in place as we need it.
I'll let you know when we finally made the step to switch our complete site from vb to xf. We should be able to give some stats then.

It's pretty late here, so I can't go through all pages, but I have one question. How much work/manpower/custom coding was necessary to do the switch? I know this is difficult to answer, but just a rough estimate is enough.

Besides that, the numbers look awesome! Congrats!

It was a lot of work because we have so many custom things specific to our site that had to be rewritten.

So most of the work was due to the huge amount of custom things you had build for this forum? I'm asking because I'm considering to switch a ~400k user, 1,5million post forum from vB to XenForo, but I'm afraid that it might be too much work, esp. since I have no programming background and would have to rely on my hoster and possible specialists from outside.

XF is only $140 (I think)... If you are considering it, probably makes sense to just buy a copy and do a test run on a backup and see how it goes.

You were the first to report something that had action taken upon it.
    Code (markup):

Was this a custom addon that you made to be able to do this ?

I've been thinking about it actually... although it probably would be something simpler (like not sure it would really be user's... rather maybe it would be a Twitter list of users you can curate through your Twitter account).

But it's not going to be super soon I know... way too many other things to do.

I think you've done a good job with the site @digitalpoint - Out of interest, what are your server resources like now things have bedded in. Is there a substantial difference from vB? Page Loads times etc.

I love xF, have done so since the first day. I see a lot of big boards making the switch now the future of xF is secure. You've released some great mods over on the xF resources too bud, so I wanted to thank you. Awesome stuff.

Not sure how I missed this, but yeah... generally speaking XenForo uses about half the resources that vBulletin 4 did for us. Page load times are much faster.
