    Hi All,

I searched for this but couldn't find any info.....ok....so I've just placed adsense ads on my site.....can't believe I did it.....but I wanted to see if the ad opened in another window.....and I went and clicked my own ad before I realized my mistake!!

I'll get banned right? One click and your out??

It's google's way of saying "Criminals don't change, just slaughter everyone who has committed a crime"

    Nonsense

I click my own ads, every once in a while, have for 3 years, and haven't been banned by google yet. Here's a couple tips:

Firstly, NEVER click on an ad unless you're absolutely sure you're going to give the ad a strong consideration. You don't have to buy the product, but if you don't like MMO products, don't click on an MMO ad. If you're male, don't click on a pregnancy, or female related ad.

Secondly, DON'T make a habit out of it. Seriously, that will get you banned quicker than anything. I think in 3 years I may have clicked on a dozen ads or so, and I consider that too many.

The idea behind the "don't click your own ads" is to deter individuals from doing so repeatedly, trying to inflate their own pocketbook. I think the team behind google knows and understands very well that publishers are consumers as well.

That said, a really simple philosophy:
Don't test it!!!! If you THINK it could be wrong, it very well may be.

I think what will get you banned quicker though is modifying the ad code to open up a new window (or tab). That's a no-no. You need to place the ad code on your site unmodified. ANY modification of the code can result in problems. I wouldn't tempt fate with that one bit!

Gee, thanks guys! I feel a little better now, not that google ads are the most important website tactic for me....but I just felt so stupid, thinking I would get banned for a second of bad judgement! No, I wouldn't mess with the code, opening up in another window, was just something I wasn't sure that google ads did or not, now I know...thanks for the advise!

One or two clicks doesnt matter, adsense consider it as accidentally click. Just ensure you not doing it again and again since if it happen for many times, it can considered as "cheater" :)

    Give google a little credit.....mate.
It is not so autocratic to ban people for just a click. It is only if you commit the mistake too often and that too repeatedly, it would open its third eye!

Install Statcounter.com code, this way you can see who is clicking on your google ads immediately. That will help to eliminate any doubts cause if nobody clicks on an ad for a long while we tend to think the ad must not be working. gl

It will be treated as accidental click. Don't do it again. If google found out that you repeat it for few times, then they will ban your account.

You will not get banned for accidental clicks such as 1-5 clicks
