Hey Guys, I need some expert views on this. Suppose i have country specific CCTLD (xyz.co.jp) and i set gettargetting as well for Japan, site is built for Japanese searchers but initially i put whole site content in english. Would it harm? Please provide your views. Thanks Sally
I don't think so it harm your ranking in Search engines like Google and Yahoo. But it can harm your rankings in Japanese Search engines. Just be targeted to your audience, if you think that your site is for those who want to read it in Japanese then you should translate it in your native language, You can easily translate it without some extra work by using Google language translation.
Localization is very important to Google these days. If you want to reach your target audience (SEO wise) be sure to use their language. You want to be found in the way they search (in Japanese). Also, if you use Google Language Translation be sure to create new pages, or replace the current one's. Just using Google Translate Gadget doesn't do anything for your rankings (since translations are rendered by javascript).
It wont have any harm if you use the English language. It will benefit you in the local searches and searches based in Japan because of the country-specific TLD.
Thanks for the all those who replied..it helps me. Would really appreciate some more views. @GeneM Apart from local japenese search engine, would it harm in google.co.jp
It doesn't harm to ur site. But when u come to ranking & search engine point of you, Google detects your language as English and the people will see a link as translate to its local language when people search query is in English. For example: http://www.google.de/#hl=de&&sa=X&e...hout+prescription&spell=1&fp=aef81039d1de0716 It may effect ur visitos.
Set the Geographic Target tool in the Google Webmaster Tools. That will indicate the location of your site. If appropriate, also include your location with Google Maps. Search Engines love local content. Regarding the language, do not worry. On my blog (seotranslator.com) I posted recently a 4-part series on language recognition by search engines. One of the things that I found out during my research is that search engines use geo-location to try to identify the site language, but that this is not the only factor. Curiously enough, the ccTLD is not used for language detection - for example, Google has reported that it does not detect language based on the URL but on content. This is of course not necessarily true for other engines.
