A thought just popped into my head while just replying to that thread about Google Adsense being pants for Euro Currency people.

Why not just have one global currency? Wouldn't it just be easier?

USD is the standard currency for business. So when are they going to do away with the metric system? :D

I think the logistics of that would be a nightmare.

Why would the United States want to devalue the US dollar ? Or why would Great Britain want to devalue the pound ?

I think each country likes to control its own monitary policy because that's how they control their economy. When economy is slow, they lower interest rates, when economy picks up and possibility of inflation picks up they jack interest rates up.

Countries like China and Japan have been devaluing their currency for years; They do this because it makes their exports more affordable to other countries, (i.e. it keeps their factories humming, but shuts down US factories). So how do they do this? By purchasing US dollars and inflating the price of the US dollar. So when the dollar 'falls', it is complicated by the fact that it was overvalued through manipulation to begin with. If Asian countries simply stopped buying the dollar, it would fall. It could make your head spin!
