Don't do it -- I'll leave it at that.

Not only are bought lists not as effective as you would expect, but there are places where you can get a list of around 1 million people for less than 100 dollars.

The email addresses are probably just bought from other people, which is clearly a violation of many privacy policies. Other than that, the emails you will be sending them will most probably be spam, which is ILLEGAL. Another thing to convince you is that most of the mail, if not all, will go straight to the spam box, where it will be deleted without being even glanced at.

The best way, unfortunately, is to just build your own list. I know it's tedious, but you actually have people who want what you're giving them, otherwise they wouldn't have signed up. Just set up a squeeze page, and use traffic generation techniques to get your sign ups. Trust me, it seems like a hassle now, but once you get it up and running, you'll be very glad that you put in the effort instead of just purchasing a list from somebody else.

    Good luck!

I agree, I hate spam too, unless it is relevant to my business . I will take an unsolicited mail, if I am targeted because of my industry or whatever. what do you guys think?

I dont mind at all getting unsolicited stuff to my business email, if its targetted because of my industry - theres a chance I might be interested in it.

I cant stand getting loads of random "buy pirate software", "buy pills", "enhancements", "get rich", etc

Don't do it, as pretty much any sensible marketer on this entire forum will tell you it's a complete waste of money. 10k for a list that won't even glance at your advertisements? Think about that for a second...

It may work if you have a commercial site. My company makes average 400 dollar per 10000 email sent, which is very profitable. But these people actually signed up for this.

Any idea on what the ROI is on spam?

If you are buying emails, then you are likely not getting them within your niche, so chances are you are nothing but a spammer with 10k to spend to annoy 5 million people. The better majority of them will get filtered and disposed, most of the rest will get ignored. I do not know what the stats are, but you could likely spend that 10K on some kick assed linkage someplace and actually get quality traffic with actual interest in what you have to offer.

If I'm on your email list, I promise I WILL NOT read whatever it is you are sending me...
