this is what best practice for you this will make you focus on single issue, you spent more "quality time with single domain only"
Well every one seems to be going for the one big site instead of several small ones.. I also think that is the best choice, except I would structure it like several sub niches/sites all contained within one big niche/site "Virtual Silo" style. Here's a good article about it. http://www.seo2020.com/lsi/silo-structured-website.html Also a quick search turns up a wealth of knowledge about virtual silos Cheers James
I have 1200+ websites all about cars, www.justgoodcars.com and it works great for my customers as they have a site that is dedicated to the niche they are interested in, as long as you have built yourself a good CMS you will be fine. Bad side - you could have a lot of traffic but not many people will realise as they use alexa etc.. to work out traffic, - less content on the main site - one hell of a link building campaign Good side - top level domains help a ton when listing in Google - If you have the time and/or money you can link build faster than anyone else because they are unique domains - you have much more advertising space for homepage advertisers at a more competitive rate as they can simply choose their niche. And Many Many more things!
Im currently setting up a new blog, theres various areas within the niche that i was going to be setting up a domain and site per product but that was when i was recently going to market a particular way, now ive changed my mind on that and will be using a blog, a blog was not my first choice but it makes sense and because of what i will be doing i feel building a large blog covering the many sub niches within this niche will make more sense. Plus with the one large site its literally impossible for me to run out of content for it where as lots of little thin ones stay like that. It really starts getting silly when you have so many websites that just logging into them alone, performing maintenance and renewing the domains means uneccessay expense and time wasted trying to do a half soaked approach on them all.
One big website is the way I would go.. If you have many small websites it would be that much harder having the incentive to work on them and keep current.. But then again having all your eggs in one basket comes to mind here..
Did you never hear the phrase putting all your eggs in 1 basket ? lol made this post without going to the end protac is right
It is a good idea to have one big website and many other small related websites. Try to provide one way links with relevant anchor texts from the small websites to the big websites. Refrain from doing link exchanges or having the sites on the same IP addresses. Ultimately your big website wil gain authority and start ranking higher. You can also get traffic from long tail keywords in the small websites which you can divert to your main website.
I think having one big website is better because it's kind of like a one stop shop. Convenient and easier to maintain. Plus the more variety of keywords you have the more traffic you get from all different people looking for different cats.
If you can manage on big site at the cost of many small sites then it is better to build one good rich and unique site instead of the latter option... That is what most of us say and is a logically correct option...
Several medium sized sites, nothing worse than spending years working on 1 site and getting it earning to the point you quit you job and it's your only source of income and Google de-indexes it! It's not nice when Google pushes a button and destroys your life, your kids suffer and you cannot afford to live. If you live at home with mommy, yeah great throw it all in to one site you have little to lose.
One big website with a couple of smaller niche sites that link back to the big one. You have to ask yourself - what if Google makes some changes and the big one ends up on page 10.
