ONE Big website vs. MANY small websites?

So the question is if i should build one big website or many small websites. They are all in the same niche.

Decided to change the topic from about tatoos to cats. This is a better example i feel.

    BIG
Cats - MEGA site with many different breeds ot cats, grooming, training, food supplies.

    SMALL
Different websites, with focus on each breed.
    etc; Persiancats.com, Ragdollcats.com, somalicats.com, siberiancats.com,

    What do you think?

Go with the big website. More traffic and revenue.

one website would obviously be "better" because it's less work, but you probably have a better chance making many smaller ones

Go for one big website instead of managing several tiny ones...

You could have put poll question here.. easier for you...

I highly advocate one large site; you're more likely to be able to build a nice community around it. It's a lot easier to keep people interested in one site with a lot of varied but related content than it is to get folks to visit a dozen small sites. Good luck!

I will suggest you to go with One big website instead of creating 5 or 6 small sites.

well there is a balance man
if you are the one who will be doing the seo for all the websites then you have to decide what you wanna do.
you can have a big one where you can get all the traffic. that is very usual one and common too.
but if you are going to do seo for all of them on a regular basis then it is a good idea to have a big one and then back it up with others which can have links of the main one. in this way you can have more links on results which are related to your website. like you can try to have two or three of your websites to come at the top of the search rank on google which means more conversions.

    The big one is better.

If you have more websites it takes more time to update them. Make 2 or 3 BIG websites, but make them good.

i think you should go for tribal, face, gods, fishes, dragon all in one site. They all are related to each other. Idea is to create big sites and cover all things related to it in one site.

So go to cover full topic in one site.

If I were you, I would work on only 1 website covering every topic and keywords.

They all all in the same genre, of tatoos.

It would be better to squish it all into one site, but then again a different domain name may possibly increase the traffic through some keyword..

Okay, i understand their all under tatoo. Perhaps that example is not that good. How about this new example.

    BIG
Cats - MEGA site with many different breeds ot cats, grooming, training, food supplies.

    SMALL
Different websites, with focus on each breed.
    etc; Persiancats.com, Ragdollcats.com, somalicats.com, siberiancats.com,

    What do you think?

Keywords like "cats" is very broad keyword. It might
be hard for you to get rank on search engine as well.
Ask yourself this questions " what are people searching
when they type "cats" in Google?" From that question
you should be able to know whether your keyword is
    targeted or not.

Be sure to choose the right keyword for your small site.
Make sure that your keyword is highly profitable and people
do a search for that keyword everyday.

    Hello...

    I would say several...

Reason would be that if im searching for something specific (calico cats) then id rather go to a smaller
site that has articles, videos, links ect ect (say 15 pages) to that specific (calico cats) niche where a
large site might only offer 1-2 pages of content related to my (calico cats) search.

Also say my site gets stroked by google or any other SE then im now screwed becuase ive
i put all my time and effort into just this one site and its been de-indexed or penalized and
i have no clue what i did wrong and trying to get a responce from them isnt going to happen
so i lose money sleep and my mind.... no thx

Advantages of one big website are easy to maintain, update, and have to concentrate only on it.
