One big site vs Several small sites - Which route should I go?

    Hi everyone,

I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask this. Please forgive me if I posted it in the wrong section. I am planning to start a website mainly for adsense purposes and will be writing a lot of content myself.

I am planning to write study guides in different subject areas: Math, Physics, etc. My question is, is it better for me to have a bunch of sections inside one big domain name (blahstudyguides.com) or setup several small websites either in subdomain format (math.blahstudyguides.com) or completely new domain names (math-study-guide.com).

I am trying to maximize my revenue opportunities and was wondering which of these methods is the better way to go as far as Search Engines and Adsense goes.

    Your advice is much appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

If they're all in the same niche -- study guides -- go with one domain. Easier to create, easier to maintain, easier to SEO, easier to keep track of, etc. You're just giving yourself more work if you put them on their own domains.

well, have them all in one site, but get different domain name for each, this will make it easier for people to find you. If for example you have like you said, math-study-guide, physic-study-guide, chemistry-study-guide and so on, people with different interest might get to your website directly by those instead of to your big study-guide.com

If you can write lot of uinque content on various subject than don't limit to adsense only. you can sale links, banners and can sale ebooks and pdf books.

Again, It depend on your capability. If you can write tons of quality pages on each subject than go for many domains. And if you can only write average on each subject than just go for one.

The idea here is - your site must rock internet regardless many website or one.

Regarding search engines - one site with great content and quality resourceful pages are sufficient to hit.

Regarding reader - people like to have all stuff what they need at one place.

Finally, see yourself if you can write tons of quality pages on each subject than go for many domains otherwise go for one.

As said, if you plan to have a lot of content then I suggest several sites. Over time each one can get really big and it would be better to have them separated. I`ve never been to keen of having all your eggs in one basket as things can go wrong sometimes.
