This might apply to more people/niches than you might think. If you have a product or a service that companies could find useful, consider giving a big name a HUGE discount or even free services in exchange for being able to mention their name on your site. Even though you'll get hit with less of a profit right off the bat, you'll earn ten times that later. Any product or service that mentions a big company's name on it will instantly grab more attention and more customers. For instance, which marketing firm would you rather go with: one with twenty examples of previous clients that you don't recognize at all or one that mentions having Ford Motors, Oscar Meyer, or any big store? On a smaller scale, which product would you rather buy: one that mentions several fellow marketers that you don't know that well or one that mentions a big marketer or site that you know using their product? If you're lucky enough to be able to get the business of "bigger" names or companies without offering discounts, great! If not, you should really consider being more competitive by offering a very competitive deal or even doing such services for free for such clients. It will pay back at least ten times your loss if not more. Recently I agreed to take on a client for far less than I normally would simply because it was a very well established company in its field and had several awards that were nationally recognized. Do you think that might look better to other possible customers? You bet. Or for a launch that I'll be doing in the future, I'm just now finding real offline companies to use my product for very cheap (or free) in exchange to use their name later on. Do you think an actual well established company will look better on a testimony page than the testimony from a fellow marketer? You bet (unless, of course, you were just focusing on marketing to a forum like this, in which case testimony from a well respected member could go much further). Have any of you tried this? I think it's often overlooked. Hope it helps some of you! Brian
