Once every month Google removes my site from top ranking keyword? Whats going on?

    Hey,

So this is a little confusing and weird.

For the past 8 or so months I have noticed that every month, Google removes my site from my site top ranking keyword.

For example if my site ranks #2 for the keyword "games", Google will remove my site so my site does not show up when someone searches "games" even though my site is still indexed in Google.

Then, after 1-2 weeks, Google re-adds my site to the keyword "games" and the traffic starts coming back to normal.

This has been going on for over 8 months now, and happens once every month.

Nothing on my site has changed to cause this.

Someone know whats going on, or how this can be fixed?

    Thanks.

Sounds like Google just testing to see the bounce rate of other sites given an opportunity to be near the top.

This is something new from google, in which it keep testing other site by giving them an oppurtinity to rank to see how they perform, if their performance is good you might loose your ranking permanently...

2 of my sites have gained significant position over last few months and all that came from this method

Google probably testing and implementing some changes and observe the result then probably see things are not right so they make changes to restore previous rankings.

Same here with a couple of my sites.

One of them used to be ranked on 2nd place of first page, for some Euro 2012 KW - right after UEFA's official site for months.
Now my site is nowhere to be found and this of UEFA is many pages behind. Both are now replaced by some strange and not so professional & useful websites.

At first I thought I might got a penalty (although no reason for such), but I doubt google will put a penalty on UEFA's site as well :)
On the other side, a different site of mine went from page 3-4, to the top positions of page 1 for its keywords.

So maybe they are either implementing some new changes of their algorithm or maybe they just tasting it... Time will tell

this happens to thousands of well optimized sites and has been happening for years. just because you can figure out how to rank well for a keyword does not mean that you will be allowed to...then everyone could do it and there would be no reason to pay for clicks....remember, the FACT is that google is a business that makes money from advertising and keyword auctioning. you do not want to pay and chose to optimize your site for free....

i know thousands of SEO's who have the same issue...but unless you pay for those high cost keywords like "games" there is little chance that you will be allowed to rank #1,2 etc...indefinately. the reason is that there are only 10 spaces on the front page and usually above that are the google paid results..so the total would be 3 people who can afford to get the front page and 10 people who could SEO to get there and no one else would ever have a chance to get there, which would make the whole business model of "search" pointless.

sorry but those are the FACTS. shareholders don't care about anything but ROI... and the leadership at google have to deliver...and at over 600 dollars per share...i dont think they will just allow you to take up all the space on the front page...lol

Now it does sound like the 'google dance'.... What makes me wonder is the fact that it's happening for 8 MONTH straight? That's kinda strange... I have 3 well optimized sites, hardcore SEO'd, in the top 5 atm and every single one of them had the same effect for maybe 8-10 weeks but not anymore? Maybe it's because you look with different browsers and there's also a diffenence in being logged into your google account or not when you check your site? being logged in to google your site will always show up in top positions... Also from my PC 2 of my sites rank on 3rd place and if I use my macbook pro with firefox I'm 1st on page one...

Now that's just my experience here... Once every month for 8 month straight could well be some weird algo change too as stated before.....????

is it possible you're logged into your google account when you see it ranking higher, log out and do the search, the results will be different if so

Happens to me daily LoL... but I am in a competitive celebrity and gossip niche, so it can be panda B.S (I think that gets tossed around to much). For instance one of my posts can go straight to the front page for the key word and two hours later it's on the second page or the next day it's 10 pages in results. All I do is create a similar post (let's say it's a Miley oops, the next day I create a Selena oops and mention Miley's in it) and link back to the older post - and Bob's ya uncle - the post is relevant again and back on the front page. Just keep ya blog or site updated with fresh content and you'll be fine.
