On the front page but no traffic

I'm on the front page for a term relating to local jobs. I have some links to local jobs on my site. However, my plan is to get 0.025 to take the overseas jobs (because I get a huge payoff even just for that like 3000 a month). Now it's on the bottom of the front page of Google Australia and a few others. It's on the top of the 2nd page (but sometimes floats to the bottom of the 1st) for Google USA. It's in the middle of the page for Canada Google.

The description of my site (visible to Google Users) advertises the overseas jobs mostly but I also say something about local jobs.

So what's the problem. Maybe I need to optimize to get near the top of the 1st page. It wouldn't be that hard and I'm working on it now.

Basically, I'm even willing to allow others to make money off of my site if I can just get that 0.025 Based on wordtracker the term gets around 2000 searches a month so that's 200 a day if I get 10 percent. I know my music site gets 10 percent of around 1000 for being toward the bottom of the 1st page for a certain term.

Of course you might ask "Why optimize for local jobs?" It's not as difficult as the others though I'd like to work for number 1 for "jobs" one day.

You really need to make sure that the terms you are targeting are actually being searched for. Use Googles SKTool to check your terms that you are ranking for and it will show you the search volume and competition for that term.

You can also use this tool to find search terms related to your industry with high search volume and low competition by using the filters.

    Hope that helps some.

For me it might be that you ranked in a keyword with low traffic:

"Ranking no. 10 on a keyword with 1,000,000 traffic is better than ranking no. 1 on a keyword with 100,000 traffic."

The traffic is good. All I need .025 percent of 6000 visitors (200 people a day). So if I can get 200 people out of around 2000 to click then I'm fine. People might look for local jobs but when presented with my offer a few might come. Perhaps I should rewrite the description to focus more on local jobs and then presuade a couple of people to go for the foriegn jobs. However, my description is quite appealing to any job searcher even if they're looking for local jobs. For now I'll try to go to the top for the term and then if nothing happens I can change my description.

Are you sure? Some might argue than long tail keywords are better. I wouldn't say so for jobs though. It's very difficult to get number 10 for the keyword "jobs"

If people are looking for it then it must be important. Don't most people on here agree?

Yes, according to the wordtracker free tool this term gets between 2000 and 2700 people daily.
