What is on page optimization in simpler terms? I am very confused with meta tags,article submision etc..

On Page SEO is the SEO tuning of the HTML code. I.E. Title, Description, H1, Alt, etc. Off Page is Linking with Blogs, Forums, etc.

On page Optimization means make ur site SE and user friendly. Now meta tags have no value on SEs except meta description which can shown in SERPs
Article submission is not related to on page optimization. Basically, on page optimization is the way to optimize the contents on your own site.

I think, software doesn't see all the weaknesses of your site in terms of SE friendly. Better if you would check it manually and create your suggestion for on page optimization.
Add mata tags(title, description,keywords), alt tags, anchor text, create sitemap, xml site map, then submit to webmaster tools, inner links.

On Page Optimization refers to the text and content on your web site pages. Basically editing your page and content so the Search Engine can find your webpage when a surfer is searching for your web sites particular topic.
