black hat!! what the.... I would cal it black hat if you have hidden text behind background or same color as background or text outside the screen and you add 800 or 1000 over optimised copy in it just to get positions..

but I have tried this out and I strongly believe that its very white hat if used wisely..

you can used a collapsible div using java & css and it works perfectly fine.. and if you are doing it on an ecommerce site its all the more usefull are optimising content is so very easy... & like i said above do not spam it!!!.

This is not black hat technique....
Hidden text has some other definition, deliberately hiding text (for instance, same text on same background) which is not visible to the user but can be viewed by SE bot (for manipulating SE rankings).

What you are explaining is kind of functionality on your page which is visible to both SE as well to the visitor.... So go for it!

Even Google does it on its Adsense and Adwords home pages :)

This will in no way be deemed as black hat tactic. Use your common sense guys. The easiest rule of thumb, when ever in doubt, is to think of this way...if what ever it is you are trying to do could be deemed as an attempt to manipulate the system or trick the search engine, than don't do it. This however is a commonly used way of not over crowding the page with information and making it available only on demand by the user. No bad intentions here. I can't unfortunately provide any technical advise on how to best execute this, but don't worry about it from the optimization point of view.

    Thanks Friends,

    I am More clear now.
I am expert in how to do this technically via CSS and jQuery.
I was just afraid of mistake of being victim of get banned :(

but It is clear now that this is not hiding text via font and colors so it is good to go with it. :)

Thanks you so much for all replies.

You should have a read of the google webmaster guidelines and the sticky threads on here before you start to do anything on your site, especially if you don't even know about the basics such as hidden text.

I went through some of the response and it looks like most of these guys haven't even bothered to read your post.

Tabbed navigation is perfectly fine from SEO point of view. You should try and have named anchors for each tab so that one can 'directly' jump to that tab. Google even likes such named anchors and has ajax history widgets in their GWT framework.

Yes hidden content will help, but that falls under the blackhat SEO category, and I would stay away from that so you don't get penalized/banned by google.

Not at all! That would depend on the purpose of hidden text! Alt attribute was a form of hidden text!

I think this is black hat seo technique. You should not use it. If you want to use then you can put your keyword in hidden text but be sure about keyword stuffing. You will be punished by Google. Stay safe while using hidden text. I recommend that stay away.

Hidden text is that source of the HTML code that is visible to the search engine but invisible to the users. So,this technique is used to get traffic and search engine ranking but do not fall into such trap because your pages may be removed from the Google index and might ban your site permanently.
