What are your experiences about the profitabilty of blogs? I know that some top bloggers in the world make tons of cash, but what about the average successful blog. How does it measure against other type of sites? What are the ads revenue expectations that a blog can have? I'm curious to hear your opinions.
Hey there tony and welcome to DP, I run Gazotto.com (a gadget blog) and even though its in a pretty competitive market I'm still averaging anywhere from $20-$40 a month. It's not amazing, but like I said the sector is pretty competitive and I don't currently have the resources to advertise it as much as I'd like. So, I think you can make it profitable, it depends on your niche really. My words of advice: If you blog for the money, even on a topic you may like, and you fail to make what you want to make you will eventually quit. If you blog out of pure passion the money will eventually roll. It might take a while, but it will come. I started at $0.63 cents in one month from adsense and I'm way up from that now. I also want to state that you could make easy money from text links and such. Skinny
Thanks Skinny. I've visited your blog and it's interesting and well written. $20-$40 a month is not much, but I've seen that you are not exploiting the full ads potentialities because you have only one ad, and it's very very discrete. May ask you how many users and page views do you get each month? Also, how many google ads impressions do you have to get $20-$40 a month? I'd love to be able to get $2000-$4000 but I guess that's just wishiful thinking. LOL. Thanks in advance. Tony
I'm happy to report that for the 1st 6months this year I have averaged $325. Also based of a site redesign and 10 days of data I am hopeful that I will average $500+ My CTR went from 1.5% to 6%
Nice to see you guys are making some cash with your blogs. I make a few bucks enough to pay for hosting and domains.
Check out www.problogger.net - It's full of good advice about all the different aspects of blogging As far as your goal of $2000-$4000 per month, I think that it is achievable. However, getting there is going to take years of consistent writing on multiple quality blogs. As others have said, don't blog for the money. The most successful bloggers start out blogging because they have a passion for the subject they are writing about, and then the monetization comes later on.
I agree, I started the Optical Illusion blog below because I enjoyed it. I thought maybe I could I could get up to a $1 a day, but I wasn't in it for the money. The other blog below is also something I know from first hand experience. I have three more posts and a redesign to complete what I wanted to put in writing. But again this was something I enjoyed sharing. Been idle on it since last year when life interupted me.
The optical illussion blog below is the one that went from 1.5% to 6% CTR That blog is up to $63 for the first 3 days in July. I'm big in Hungry and Russia the last couple of days. Only $.03 a click though. Illusions is a very low cost keyword so you really have to enjoy what your doing.
I run an adult-oriented blog and made between $400/$600 a month. Spent about 20-60 minutes a day maintaining the site. Revenue right now is zero since I don't have a method to accept payments (its a membership based site).
Could you send me a pm with the link, please ? I`d like to see it, because i`m planning to make one too and i need ideas
