I just came back from a 2 day training session of omniture. And honestly I dont understand why big companies go through the hassle of customizing with tags and going through 100 different custom reports.

My 2 cents worth, just becuase your a big company dont spend thousands of dollars implementing omniture. Get over your ego and chuck in google analytics with one simple cut and past code...

I've got a lot of sympathy with your view - most of the Omniture accounts I see aren't set up properly.

You cant compare ominiture and GA, in these such way. Ominiture is paid and having lots of customization reports in it. Giving you example if your site has average page views more then 1 lakh then google analytics wont useful as GA has limit on these but with the help ominiture you can over come from that.

2 difference in ominture you can store your data into your private server (which is prefreble for banks) whether in GA your data will store into their server.

if you are into b2b and b2c market then ominiture are preferable.

I've used both, and Omniture is WAY too complex for 90% of the companies and websites out there. Plus, Google Analytics is expanding its functionality every month, and if you're technically savvy enough you can even make some really neat custom adjustments through code tweaks and creative use of filters. I really don't see why people pay for web analytics software when Google Analytics takes care of the job quite nicely, for free.
