OMG lost 20GIGs worth!

Well my current host where I had all my anime etc hosted(20gigs worth) was transferring accounts to a new server but his data center deleted my account because he forgot to tell them that they should transfer my account even though it has anime on it, so now they deleted it and the old server has been recycled. 20GIGS and days of uploading gone. My host has offered me some compensation but I was wondering if there was away via WHM or cPanel that I could have files from a friends server( which has 100GIGS+ anime on it) transferred to my account saving me and my staff hours worth of uploading again.

    Thanks

    FTP transfer.

It can be done in php, but there are some issues.
    1. bandwidth both you and your mate will loose 100gbs worth of band
    2. warning, warn your host what you'll be doing first!

If your host allows FXP (server-to-server transfers) then you can do this in flashfxp ;)

I zip everything on a domain in to a file and upload it, then use SSH when loged in under the domain account and unzip it.

Hmmm, well it would take forever to download 20GIGs, zip it then reupload it :(

Somehow he has managed to save 6gig worth of anime

You get your friend to ssh into his server and FTP it to your server, they are both on fast connections, so it will be much faster.

If you ONLY have FTP access to both, then it will be difficult. Does your host not keep backups? LOL... might want to look into that....

Yea, somehow he had a back up but it only had 6GIG.
So will I only need FTP and my friend need both SSH and FTP?

One of you needs to be able to FTP to the other. Only one of you needs shell access and the other one needs an FTP server.

You can shell into your box, ftp to his server and pull the files.

    OR

He can shell into his box, ftp to your server and push the files.

One or the other. I mean, really, you could do it other ways, even if neither if you has FTP access or some kind of shell access. He could make his files available via HTTP, and you could write a PHP script to connect to his web server, gets the files, then saves them locally. But that will be a pain.

Hehe okay I kinda understand that.
Or do you think I can just use rapidleech to get all his files?

Ask your webhost to open the shell access for you. Then get your friend to do a 'scp' transfer to the shell account. Fast and quick!
