The same way most of the writers here do the same thing - practice and sheer ability. :)

You might want to add paying clients to that. :D

Ah, yes - but not all of the material is paid. Some of it is my own. :) Clients are certainly motivating, however. As are deadlines. LOL

    I assume you're talking about NaNoWriMo? http://www.nanowrimo.org/
That's quite an achievement - how many hours do you write per day?

    Yup - that's the one!

I write an average of 2-3 hours per day.

As one of my favorite guitarists said (I moonlight as a guitarist when I'm not writing LOL), a lot of inspiration comes from having deadlines.

50,000 words is not that much my friend. 50,000 pages is simply too much. I personally write a minimum of 300 articles per month (for just one client) of a minimum of 400 words each. That is 120,000 words. I am actually slow when compared to a lot of professional content writers out there. :)

drakudemine, If you're truly writing completely original, high quality content at those levels each month, then I applaud you. However, I find it far more likely that anyone with numbers that high is actually rewriting existing material or spinning. Unique is not original, and 50,000 words is actually quite a lot for real writing (original work, including planning, researching, and the actual writing).

Unless you are JK Rowling, writing novels isn't a very effective way to monetize your writing. I know we all regularly complain in this forum about the low rates for copywriting, but it's still substantially more per word than the average novel-writer will earn. So I'd stick to copywriting if I were you!

To be fair, most NaNoWriMo 'novels' are not really written for publication anyway -- just by people who have an itch to write.

I have several friends who take part in NaNoWriMo. Too much for me, so I signed up instead for National Blog Posting Month (NaBloPoMo), and (by the skin of my teeth) made it.

Of course, for some, even this is too much. We really need a NaHaikuWriMo for the truly indolent...

I believe national message board posting month might be slightly more satisfying.

It is possible to write 50,000 original word content ie fiction etc in a month - but in my experience it takes several revisions to get something worthy of print. I always do a blueprint first and the first draft is usually the 50,000 words - although that only amounts to a 3rd of a typical length novel. But as with everything - the difficult part is walking the walk - so Kudos to you for getting it done.

I never heard of the contest before...

recently i been working towards a diploma in retail management. here in oz a diploma 's topics is broken down into whats called units or modules. Basically we're given a 'training manual' which is a printed a4 sheets stapled with questions and a lite sprinkling of some information. sometimes there are 'suggested answers' in back. yay! lol.
anyhoo,we are required to type the questions and write the answers according to what we think the answers are. (me and my friend pioneered the format for presentation the class now requires..)..i am digressing from the point...
Usually there are around 30 questions which amount to 60 pages of text. size 12 font verdana/times new roman.
except this one unit which had 76 questions..i am currently got around 90 pages it totals nearly 20,000 words and i still got i think around 15 more questions!!
I;ve never usually done a word count not until it hit over 60 pages.
I got thinking..lol..its biggest unit yet..so i did some research. Uni masters thesis are around the 20,000 mark!!
once i discovered that i stopped work on it. all that work to probably get a pass(becuase the lecturer is a..well..don't get me started) when i coulda probably aced a uni degree..

One day i do want to write a non-fiction book...

I was thinking 50,000 words was very good but not all that much for someone who works at it full time. When you say that you average 2-3 hours per day, that makes it a pretty good clip!

I wrote 20,000 words in 6 days, I thought I was slow but putting it into perspective it's not too shabby.

Over a month, I could break the 100,000 word mark.

I have to admit, I was a little shaken when you wrote 50,000 pages, there is no way I could that, that's enough content for several novels!
