    Hello,
    Is dmoz the oldest directory or there is older directory ? I do not want my opening page for web directory reviews , to give out the wrong information as to which is the oldest directory on the web.

    If dmoz is not than which one is?

    yahoo directory is old aswell! but then i don't know which one is older! am sure there must be more old directories like dmoz, perhaps searching the wiki would be a better solution!:)

    i tried at wiki on the directories link and searched for term old but couldn't find anything. So maybe someone here at dp knows which might be the oldest.

    DMOZ was originally GnuHoo and was launched on June 5th 1998. The project only ever existed because of failings in the Yahoo project thus had to have been started after Yahoo.

    Yahoo was founded on March 1st 1995, based off of the January 1994 web site called "Jerry's Guide to the World Wide Web". The renaming of the web site took place in April 1994.

    As has been previously stated the Virtual Library was the first.

    If you maintain a site you would like to have listed in a section of the Virtual Library, then please go to that site to find how to contact the individual maintainer. The Catalog curator is not involved in the addition of external sites to the VL.
