Greetings, Wondering if anyone has experienced a similar issue... Our older articles receive great click-thru rates. Anything new we put up is very low. At least half or more of the older articles. We are almost at the point of diminishing returns. It is costing more to put new content up then what we are earning. Topics, format, ad placement, color are all similar. Example: (not real #'s) - 200 impressions of the older articles could get a 10% click thru rate... - 200 impressions of the newer articles receive 2% click thru rate... Any thoughts? Thanks.
just a thought: the old article is not a great read anymore (outdated, etc) and the users click off more often...
and your point is? I view this as a very good thing.. It means you can earn large returns on your long term content.
The longer a site or content is on the net, the more spiders and engines and traffic finds it, so I would think that is normal. My sites have always showed the same.
It seems that google engine looks at ctr at certain ad on a page. If the ctr is high, the ad is displayed more often. The higher ctr of certain ad is determined by google as more relavent. Older content gives google more time to sort out the ads that do well on that page. This is why old pages have higher ctr.
the older articles recieve more targetted ads.. whereas the newer ones may be showing public ads and stuff of that sort..
I find this an uncomfortable conundrum, reiterating devbistro. The older (or more stale) content is less likely to fulfill the visitor's need and therefore clicking on a fresher ad is more likely... It may not apply to this situation but it does apply in many. I think of this when I update my pages... Andi
