Suggestion Old Thread Warning

It might be nice to place an "Old Thread Warning" under the reply post for threads older than "X" days for example:

Not a bad idea. Often new members run through forum posting mindless posts in old threads to pad their post count. Once these old threads get bumped the lemmings rush in with other less than earth shattering posts.

I'm not sure if its a mod for VB for what, but noticed they do that over at Web Hosting Talk... Its a pretty neat feature. Sometimes you see a thread and the date might be today, but the year is off... I've seen old posts revived by accident as well as for padding reasons.

Would it also be better to stop new users from posting in threads which had its last reply xxx days before?

Why only new members? Rules have to be equal for everyone. ;)

yeah it's funny when I see a thread about someone who is looking for something and the thread is over a year old and people are still answering his question.

But lets think this way, the new members won't get the chance to participate in old threads(in GC and UG), will they?

Though if it's way too old like 935 days old , then it better be closed! :p No hassles, no arguments!

Yea I like the idea because it not only stops new members from posting in really old threads it also stops just about any other member that was looking at the search function and posted by mistake.

Perhaps it's slightly ironic bringing this post back up, although something like this really ought to be implemented.

Brining up an old topic is one thing, and then there's bumping a 5 year old topic: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=12644401#post12644401

It pretty much goes without saying that there are no sufficient grounds for brining that introduction topic up, only reason I can think of is to get an easy +1 on their post count. Same kind of thing has been happening around the forum quite a bit in past weeks, specifically in Forum Management and HTML / Website Design.

Would it not be possible to make some kind of condition? A user brings up an old topic...if it's more than x-months old they can post a fresh topic, if they choose to ignore the warning and post anyway they get an infraction?

It's not a major problem I know, and the apocalypse won't come early if people keep doing it, but it's still very annoying. Anybody else on the same page?

ROFL. He bumped a 2004 introductions thread? I don't know what the limits on the mods powers are, but if possible I suggest having the guy spayed so he can't reproduce. Just a thought.

But on topic... I like the idea of the old thread indicator.
