Old, stale methods of Link Building that don't work anymore

    If these are stale what aren't. All these blog posts and article submissions aren't for the sake of link building alone, there are genuine content to be published, link building is a by product of such distribution of content.

    Article submissions are not old or stale by any means.. I have a site ranking very well due to mostly article submissions and blogpost.

    all these methods still work..doing these in bulk with little strategy is what doesn't work anymore.

    Absolutely, you need to plan your SEO, doing in bulk anything without knowing the consequences will cause damage rather than help.
