Old parked domain, .net to .com, any SEO problem?

    I wonder if buying an old .COM domain which is parked on GoDaddy and redirecting to this domain from an old well ranked .net domain is a good/bad idea.

    clientdomain.net -> pretty well on Google for some keywords. (15 months old)
    clientdomain.com -> not even showing on google still but 36 months old

    Google webmaster suggests to change backlinks from all old sites however not practical for all sites but few.

    My question is:
    1. whether new domain will never show up on Google #1 - #4 like old .net and it will disappear permanently since a 301 Redirect all pages will be used?

    or

    2. new .com will appear on the same position instead .net
