Old layout has higher CTR than new layout -- any idea why?

    This is the old layout (http://i.imgur.com/cRAWttf.png) that is now completely out of date, and this is the new layout (http://i.imgur.com/Vepbt8G.png) with up-to-date information.

    Before we did a redirect from the old layout to the new layout (we have since reversed it temporarily), the stats for last month were:

    Old layout has 3x more clicks, 30% more views than the new layout

    The earnings from the old layout were 100% more than the new layout, and I'm completely puzzled. The only difference I can see is that the old layout has a narrower content area than the new layout. Would you guys know why this narrower content area seem to be attracting more clicks?

    Yes I noticed that on some of my client accounts , Old layout has higher CTR because it gets some extra clicks from users on tablets etc, new layout doesn't let the ad load unless the whole page has loaded.

    That is the only reason I can think of ....
