Hi, This is an old saying that old is gold. But I do not agree. Every proverb is having its own time span and with the passage of time it becomes useless. I think the saying 'Old is Gold' has been obsolete. If you still think that Old is Gold then: Why you use windows XP and NOT Win 98 ? Why you update your anti-virus software and not use the old one ? Why you try to search new plugins and do not keep using the old ones? Why you use the advanced medicines for curing complicated deseases? Why you use multimedia keyboards? I think with the passage of time, everyone wants to use new technology. So this saying does not validate today. So, The latest you have, the better you are. What do you think?
No doubt we use Win Xp and not WIn 98... But, they have said that Old is Gold... They never said that Gold is the best.. Old is gold, But new is Platinum , diamond and ........ lots more...
Well it is not exactly like that. You are taking it in the wrong way. It is not that the proverb is old and it is dying out with the changing times. Every proverb has a context in which it is mentioned and holds true. I will explain you in what context this holds true. You said WinXP is better than windows 98 but you forgot that XP was built after Microsft has got the experience of what worked best and what is criticized in Win98. So if there is no Win98 there is no WinXP. Similarly if there is no DOS there is no Windows GUI at all. if there is no old database of antivirus there will be no updates to your anti-virus software. If the old plugins were not built and tried before, there can be no new plugins in their place. If there is no discovery of old medicines there will be no technology for advanced medicines for curing complicated diseases. So, everything in history is a step by step process. You have to make a single step at a time to understand and create new better things. History is nothing but a long process of learning from experience/mistakes and making the world a better place by finding new ways from that experience. The knowledge is what is valuable and is as good as gold for us now. So, it is not the old stuff itself that is as valuable as gold. So, if anybody says he likes win98 more than WinXP or old movies and fashion are better than the new ones because old is gold, don't give a sh*t to him. He is just an ignorant fool who is just unable to change with the changing times. If you still do not agree with my argument, i would like to see a counter-argument of why you don't agree.
Dude, old is gold just dont mean that "Old things" are the best and use them over todays' better alternatives..... You pick technology for that, so lets think like technology... Do you think that XP is possible without windows 98 ?? All the new softwares are just the enhanced versions of previous ones.... enhanced after learning from previous mistakes.... But the "old" is what started all this and set the innovation for others to improve... There is a term in software engineering... i just cant recall it now.... which is used to describe the older softwares or systems that were perfectly build according to older systems and were considered classic software which are obviously not usefull today but still the logics are used in modern softwares... It was something like legendary system.. ahhh.... just cant remember..
Old is gold is depend on what you talking about. If you say PC, then definately not, who are going to use 386 now....But something ye, like wine etc
The old sayings justify their existence at some point of time in your life.....and not necessarily always and with everything. When life suddenly takes a U turn for the worse, one certainly feels why the past/old days were as good as the gold! Regards, RightMan
Well said... XP is Platinum.. And everything can't be considered into OLD IS GOLD theory. - Digital -
Old is Gold is an intriguing saying, but I think you are reading to much into this! if the newer the better, then why are there antiques? Why does old furniture sell for so much money? Old is Gold, because we couldn't get to Windows XP without Windows 98. Everything is an improvement to its predecessor (except Vista!) and there are lots of peculiar sayings that don't seem relevant to anything, until suddenly one day they just seem appropriate!
I think the saying old is gold is a reference about a persons age and not things.. well valuable antiques maybe.
when you gave the examples you only referred to technology, but what about other thinks ? personally, i think this old saying still works when it comes to music .
I dont use Vista i use XP ( 98 is ancient not old ) but anyways ... old techincs .. not old technologies .. DUDe ..
