Old Index File still getting indexed but I am afraid to remove it

Hi, thanks for reading. Here's my issue.

We changed a client's website and an old index.html file is still getting indexed. Our current index file is index.cfm. When you search for the client's name on Google, they come up #1 but it's the old index.html page that comes up. When you click on it, you go to one of our error pages that says this page no longer exists.

I thought of removing the index.html page in Google's webmaster tools section but if I do that, I feel like we won't have any page listed when you type in the client's company name.

What do you think? Better to just leave it alone or should I remove the page and hope that they index our other index page? Thanks for any suggestions!
