What should be the best way to configure an old domain (pre 1999) to point to your existing site? 301 it? Go to archive.org get the site, upload it, relaunch it and add your link? What else is there to do? What's the best?
Go to archive.org, get the site, upload it, relaunch it, add your link and put in the banner "A venture of 'YOURSITE.com' " IT
Pro: You get all existing traffic to your site from the old domain where people used to visit. People also know whom to approach if they wanna buy the domain right away. Con: You waste a whole website and lose some (in some cases, all) existing traffic to that site just because the visitors don't find what they were looking for. As far as Schoemaker (Shoemoney) is concerned, he just doesn't have time. IT
What if the whole website is in the same niche as you? And like #1 on Google for the term your targetting? Would then a 301 be betta?
If its ranking #1 for that keyword, then you must re-instate the old site and provide links to your site or else due to nothing on it, the site will lose its #1 spot to competitors, make it your primary site if it ranks #1 for the keywords you are targetting and then develop it. However if the site doesn't have any decent rankings but does have traffic and fits the niche you are targetting, then a 301 would do just fine. IT
