Hello i 'll try to explain a very complicated situation, but please forgive me if my english is not that good. A friend of mine got a domain, that is active till 2005, he always used this domain for a website related to games mmorpg etc. Now exactly 6 months ago, he changed his domain topic, in to health, medicine etc.

He speak good english so every article is well written and very good, he's even a doctor so he can even put some serious input in those entry. But the problem is.

1- that website with 150 entry is getting 1 o 2 visit from search (google search)
2- he get more traffic from bing 3-4 ppl lol
3- the only traffic spike hehad was from google image, but he wanted to disable that traffic cuz was totally useless for his way to monetize( adsense)

    Now my questions

1- Could this domain be panlized because been up for many years with another topic?
2- Can this domain getting very low visit because of high competition?
3- Is there a way to go out of this situation?

Thank you all for the patience

hmmm....one thing...domains dont get traffic unless there is an actual site there. Also...you must invest tons of time and energy into a site to make people actually come to it. You must add backlinks in order to get search engine rankings, NO backlinks = No Google Traffic...simple as that. Learn SEO, that's all i can say. Or Hire me to help :)

1 - If your talking about Page Rank if the site hasn't been offline for a big period of time if should keep the PR at least for some time. The topic change can affect the way your site is linked meaning if your site SEO was always done thinking of gaming keywords ( backlinks , forum posts, directories .... ) those efforts will lose credibility in search engines eyes as the content is no longer related with the site topic
2 - Yes that is very possible. Use google adwords keyword tool to get an idea of how strong the competition is on your area.
3 - Also yes but a full explanation would be very lengthy so in a nutshell..... Build links to your site ( back links ) related to your new topic ( many many many links ), do in site optimization like taking care of the meta tags and matching it to the content, and also advertising it always helps =). Learn some SEO methods

Well that depends....does the domain name suit your new website topic? Is there a significant amount of backlinks to your domain at the moment ? If not then the fact of the domain being old might not be a strong enough reason to keep it vs registering a new keyword targeted domain name.

Although u can always keep that domain and just build new back links over time raising its SERP

Is there an actual site there? And domain ages even though are an important factor remeber they are not the ONLY factor that determine the sites position in the SERPs, content and links also come into play.

I am currently working for such sites (on old domains with changed topic) and they are on top of the rankings.
However, the new content on them (with the current topic) was changed years ago, and also we are actively creating links related to the new topic - a lot of links!

SO all that I can recommend you is to keep posting the new content and keep building related links. The old links with anchors related to the old content on your site wont be of any help in the given case, hence no rankings and traffic.

    Hope been in help.
    Cheers
