Hi, guys! I have a bit strange question, but I really wanna know the answer. Is it worth to get an old domain, which costs a few grands? Or is it better to start with a new one? Please share experience. PS: My best friend gets an old domain, which cost almost $5000, I think. However, it turned out that it has bad reputation or something like that. Now he still tries to get increase the DA of his domain.
Old domains are always good but it completely depends on the keywords used and search volumes too. Along with that do ensure that it has some high quality links pointing towards it. Else it is not worth going for an old domain. You can refer to this article when it comes to selecting good domain name - http://bloginfoguide.com/choose-a-good-domain-name-for-your-blog/ Good Luck
Thanks, Esther. However, could you please tell if there is such a term as Bad domain reputation? I read what you sent me, but I could find the answer. Dear Google, Father of userkind, Forgive our foolish search queries! We’re slaves to the visual overload We must rush our prayer because HALO’s next game round will start soon.
Yes there are people who follow blackhat SEO and end up unsuccessful thus spoiling a domain name. If you purchase those domain name it might show 100 or 1000's of back link but it won't be worth it. You should do a proper research work before purchasing any expired domain. You can take this factors into consideration:- PageRank Backlinks - Do check the links to see the quality of it Keyword based - (Optional but worth a check) Cheers Esther
Your friend got a good idea. Aged domains are a factor (be it small) in the search engines and they can be used for a variety of purposes. So far so good. However he DID make the biggest possible mistake in such a case and jumped right in without research. And, believe me, there are a number of important factors that have to be included: - check if domain is indexed - check anchor profile for spam - check for manual penalties (through Webmaster Tools) - check the website history (what your friend missed in this case and got a bad reputation domain) Archive.org is the place to go for that - check backlink profile for spammy/toxic links And those aren't really all, just the most important and where problems most commonly occur. Now it is practically back to the drawing board but hopefully this experience will be a good lesson for your friend and his next domain catch will be great.
If the domain is brand-able, then it's worth buying old domains. Mainly, it depends upon the purpose of the buyer. Many people are buying old expired domains for link juice to their money sites.
I disagree. If you looking for a brandable domain name, you should start fresh, so you can create your OWN brand. Old domains are always better because 99% probably have some type of traffic, PR, backlinks, ect. But it all depends on your budget and what you want the domain name for.
Anybody can register a domain and keep paying every year or every couple of years to keep it active. So the age of the domain doesn't really matter. What matters is that it's memorable, marketable, and that it has backlinks to it. It's much better to start fresh rather than overpay for a domain simply for its age.
It completely depends on the keywords that the domain is made up of. Also if the domain is an old one which means it is in the .COM realm and has a short catchy, non-infringing name, it could attract a lot of traffic. Also do make sure that it has backlinks to it.
