Old domain has PR4 - Can I set up a redirect to new domain to keep PR?

    Hi,

I'm in the process of setting up my new agency site and my old domain has a page rank of 4 whereas my new domain is unsurprisingly PR 0

Is there a way for me to transfer this PR somehow to my new domain as I'm fully aware of the pitfalls of a simple redirect.

Any gems of wisdom appreciated. :)

    DG

When you're ready to redirect, add this to .htacces file at public_html of old site :

301 redirect[as stated above by agnivo007] does that for you. However, PR tools may detect it as fake for some time unless your new domain has a new PR4 of itself:)

I see, my new domain has PR 0 so would it be a bad idea using a 301 redirect then?

Dont think so. Permanent redirection would be useful when you are moving from one domain to another.

hmmm, wonder if someone can help. When I uploaded the .htaccess file to my server using the code kindly provided by agnivo007 I got the following error below when I tried to access the site.

Any ideas why that might have happened?

    Thanks in advance!

A HA! Sussed it. It was down to me being dumb and using textpad instead of notepad. Schoolboy error I know!

Redirect works a treat but my PR has not transferred over. Should be PR4 - currently 0

Do I have to wait for Google to crawl the site? Guessing so...

    :)
