I am considering a old domain (petecho.com),which seems to be very ideal for my new pet supplies business. It is a PR3 domain, but got only one page indexed by google contain links to it. How could it get a PR3?
Was it penalized by google? Is it good for my new business? I don't know how to check the value of it. Is there anything I should be aware of? Thanks a lot!:)

    Hello,

Remember Google doesn't show all the backlinks, in yahoo you can check the backlinks of your domain, really I dont like the backlinks of that domain, for example moneymaikers.blogspot.com, dannychai.com/jack.html, etc, try to find out other expired domain :) you can check everyday expireddomainup.com, alywas there are good pet related expired domains :)

    Best,

but how could it get PR3 with 31 low quality backlinks? Is there anyway to make sure it isn't a fake PR?

Why not? The domain has been around for awhile, that counts for something, once it earns its pr it isn't going to lose it overnight unless something drastic happens.

In the real world there are tons of relevant old sites that don't even have 31 backlinks. Just because a new site spams a bunch of links doesn't mean it deserves to be more relevant, google seems to be doing that right anyways.

Thank you for your reply! It's very helpful.

Few minutes ago, I entered its domain name into Google(keyword=petecho)
I find out this domain doesn't even rank in the first page, I could only spot it in the page 5. It is very strange for a PR3 site, isn't it?
Does it indicate it has been penalized by google?

well, the important test to see if there is a big problem with google is when you enter the whole domain name, and see if it shows up or not, if it is banned it will not show up at all.... penalized is a different thing, it is really hard to tell, you pretty much take your chances with that

lots of sites don't rank high for their keyword, for example try this one out:

travel.com is a PR5 site.... if you do a search for "travel" travel.com doesn't show up until page 4 or 5

doing a search on petecho.com shows up on google, so it is not banned
