Okay, I'm not sure if this is in the right place, but I need some help!

Mods, feel free to move this to whatever category it fits best in.

    Okay here it goes...

I have a site, that's less than three months old, and I've done virtually no marketing of any type for it and I'm now getting 150-200 unique visitors a day. That's probably not much to some of you guys, but my numbers are growing by the day. I use AdSense, and generally make about $0.10 - $0.30 a day. I'm not trying to rush anything, but I am interested in selling some advertisement space on my site and I recently posted an article about this on the main page of my site. But since I'm so new to this, I really have a ton of questions

    1. How much should I charge? My niche is a sports website, and I was going to offer a 3 month, 6 month or 1 year deal, but I am totally in the dark about how much money to charge. I'm offering to get my graphics guy to customize an advertisement (banner, button, whatever) for whoever buys my ad space, so that means the price would go up a bit, but with my numbers, does anyone have any idea for decent prices in my niche?

    2. Also, if I get somebody who wants to advertise on my site, do I need a contract of some kind? Or is it more of a one time payment type of thing?

    Any help is GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!

The fact that you dont earn much through adsense, perhaps suggests that your users do not click many ads. However if you are getting 200 uniques per day, and this figure is growing, a company can be confident that its ad is being seen by more people every day, I would personally pay about $10-$20 a month for this sort of exposure.

I'd expand on what KIbeth said to offer that since you're "new to this" your adsense ads may not be optimized which could help explain why you're not getting many clicks. I wouldn't just assume that your users aren't prone to click ads.

That said, I'd agree that the exposure alone is worth something and that $10 to $20 monthly is probably about right. Not everyone advertises for traffic alone. Sometimes ads are purchased more for the long term item or company branding value than for quick traffic.

I'd suggest using something like phpAdsNew or a similar program. It'll make things a lot easier for you in the long run and allow advertisers and yourself to track how the ads do. The better they do the more you can charge, so those stats are of value.

    Good luck,
    Scott

Thanks for the help guys. My site is www.nbadraftworld.com by the way.

Any ideas on the legal part of this though? Will I need to enter into a contract, or if I sold lets say a 6 month ad for $XXX would that just be a one time payment?

I would just take a one time payment, just make sure you are both clear about what your getting.

To be on the safe side you should have a contract but most sites dont anyway.

Also, have a look at competiors websites and see how much they charge...
