Okay, I am getting discouraged

I have been trying and trying to get sales and they are only trickling in at best. I have a product here that I was selling 35-60 per day on ebay and amazon but my fees were $4000-$7000 and I thought I would have a go on my site and I cannot get much more targeted on my ads. As you might see I make personalized items that the customer can personalize right on my site and see the result. My ads are site targeted and when they are clicked my item auto fills with theexact word that the site is about. So I would target a golden retriever site and when the ad is clicked the product will have golden retriever on it, but right now all I am doing is spending money and the sales are not happening.

Any adword tips would be appreciated, I have read so much and seem to be getting my butt kicked.

I've gotten my butt kicked too... and still do as I am still much a noob in this dept. ;)

I think I remember reading a reply on another thread here to try keywords that are specific to your product (IE: golden retriever product instead of just golden retriever) ... so maybe go the keyword route, instead of site specific ?

Remember to switch off your content match or give it a low bid. They sure can give you a lot of exposure but you do not know who is showing your ads and where.

There are a number of things that can make a campaign unsuccessful.

Which of the following problems are you running into?

Not enough people searching (too few impressions)
Not enough clicks (your clickthrough rate is too low)
Not enough conversions (your conversion rate is too low)
Plenty of conversions, but they are costing too much (your cost per click is too high)

Each of these has a number of possible causes, but it's hard to identify the cause without knowing the symptoms.

I'd recommend looking through one of the free guides that PPC experts around the place have written. Mine's quite good (in my humble opinion!) - see the link below.

eNoveltySigns, you are most propably advertising to the wrong crowd. The mindset of googlers is very different from buyers of online properties like ebay or amazon.

I presell ready made signs as an affiliate and has fairly good success with it. There's a solid market online for such products, you just have to know WHO YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE.

Your site is simply too "basic" for searchers to just click on ads and buy from you. Make it more compelling. Push forward some testimonials. Give them a few examples how they can use those signs and so on. A few example pictures whould also be a good idea since visitors can only "guess" how your product really is. Keep the overall design, it's good tho :)

You will be amazed how little things make big differences when it comes to web optimization.

One thing that caught my attention tho was your site title! It has absolutely nothing to do with your market. You have a "custom street sign" service. Not a "Sign Shop" as in your title. A sign shop is the business am in, where i sell, metal signs, wood signs, tin signs etc. If you have been targeting such keywords then you've lost a lot of money.

All your keywords should have "custom bla bla bla sign"

Since it seem that you are not targeting organic searches at this time, invest in all 3 major search engines to widen your audience as it's a small niche. I would also strongly suggest that you optimize your site for the search engines!! Some people just don't care about "ads" since they see it as what they really are, advertisements.

I do very well on some of my content ads (much better than search). The key is to be able to measure conversions.

To see what keywords are triggering in content network, do this http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=5220129&postcount=5

    I think that:
-first you should find the keywords ads that in reality lead to sales... analyze your past ad words campaigns..
    - second you site is someway ok but you should make a better presentation of your products

Look at why people buy your signs too and use that in your keyword research and ad copy. Do they like them for birthday presents? Do they give them as Christmas presents? If you don't know why, ask your customers by putting a very short survey on your site.
