Ok... without mentioning my keywords.... im going to change them around:

Say Im trying to rank for "Luxury Cars for Sale"

    Say I own www.LuxuryCars.com

My Title Tags say: Luxury Cars for Sale

    Now for some reason.....

Im ranking 1st page for "Luxury Cars"

However im around 5th page for "Luxury Cars for Sale"

And, Im NO WHERE to be found for "Luxury Car"

Any idea whats going on here?

Is this is something backlinks could help? Because my onpage optimization specifically mentions all variations of the keywords, including "For Sale"

Hi, the reason is that your site seems to target better for the shorter term. Here are some reasons why:

    1) your domain name has the exact shorter term in it and does not include 'for sale' in it.
    2) I also checked your title tag and it seems to be "Imports Unlimited Home Page". Change it to the keywords you're targetting.
    3) There's also not a lot of content on the page that would help google figure out that your site is about luxury car sales.
    4) Good links from other sites in the same niche will definately help, especially if they reference the term 'sale'
    5) Finally, the longer keyword may just be a little more competitive, with other sites having targetted and optimized for it a bit more..

    Hope this helps.

Hey Dave -- thanks for the feed back ---- I was actually using "LuxuryCars.com" as an example --- because I dont want to mention my site -- because my competitors might search and find my blog posts!

However, my domain is very similar

Its strange..... I might make 1 way back links that just say "FOR SALE" to my site, see if that helps!!!

I must suggest you to get good quality link buildings withe same anchor text(Luxury Cars for Sale). Here you'll have to analyze your competitors for this keyword & follow their SEO techniques.

This is pure speculation since we can not get specific data on your actual website, but instinct says that you are sandboxed for your targets KW phrase. I believe this is G's way of protecting itself from spam. G suspects you are optimizing for that phrase and therefore reduces your trust rating on that phrase.

Time and a few quality related backlinks will most likely get you back to a competitive position.

As for the singular vs plural thing, I think it is very tough to rank for both, in a competitive search. I think G interprets the singular as the searcher wants product information (probably a shopper) whereas in the plural the searcher probably wants research information (e.g., wikipedia, history, etc).

Any answer you get will be speculation. Only Google as a collective (no individual) really knows why. Just be happy you are ranking well for any of your targeted terms.

So, you are ranking nicely for your main keyword, but if you add 'for sale', you
are only on the 5th page.

Imo your page is getting mixed in with billions of other pages that contain "for sale"
and synonyms for luxury and cars: comfortable trucks for example. To see how you
rank for that exact phrase you have to put your phrase in quotes.
