I'm could just be imagining things, but I'm telling you - Google Adwords is somehow tied into their normal search engine's algos. I had a brand new Website and it had only the home page indexed (old page too) so I know it wasn't anything special as far as SEO goes.

I decided to optimize the (50 or so) product pages for this shopping cart I was using and as soon as I finished, I submitted my sitemaps and proceeded to finish up the Adwords campaign I was working on earlier.

At this point I was not getting ANY organic SEO traffic to the site at all so I had decided to start off with a small PPC campaign to try and make a few sales here and there until my SEO kicked in. I created my neatly categorized adwords groups and keywords and started up the engine.

I had to rework it once or twice until I got my quality scores to the place I wanted them and once I did I realized that I'd done a pretty decent job :)

about 20 words from the campaign got a 10/10 quality score within the first hour or so (using techniques I'm sure many of you know hehe) and I was happy, but then the next day I saw something that kind of threw me back.

All of the sudden... I WAS GETTING ORGANIC TRAFFIC!

    Wut da...

Yea, I was getting organic SEO traffic even though the site was only up for a couple of weeks and had never gotten even one visitor from a search engine before that day.

What's even more curious, was that the words I was getting traffic for were the SAME words I jad just gotten that perfect 10/10 quality score for my PPC!

Now tell me.... would that NOT ring a bell in YOUR head? I'm sure there will be those of you that challenge this theory all the way, but I am pretty sure that Google is a business and as ALL businesses, they MIGHT have more of an interest in sending traffic to a Website that is doing business with them... no?

Why did my site start getting traffic for the very same words I had JUST scored a perfect 10 out of 10 for? ESPECIALLY when it hadn't gotten even ONE organic visit until that point.

Just thought I'd share my little bit of feedback :)

I believe if we all stick together (giving each other feedback like this) we can really help put things together. I've been analyzing algorithms and every aspect of SEO for over 10 years now and one thing that I know for sure is that only experience and a watchful eye can help you learn the patterns of search engines and SEO in general.

The results you are seeing has more to do with submitting a sitemap to Google, then your adwords campaign ;). I do believe that you said you did those things at the same time, correct?

I've got to agree with VS - the sitemap seems a much more likely explanation
Though my suspicion is simply that it's a glitch in analytics, because I've seen it happen too -after adding a new adwords campaign to an analytics account. Initially it was clearly including paid google traffic as unpaid. After a couple of days it corrected itself. In the case I'm referring to it was for a new site and a new adwords camapign, so it was very clear that was what had happened.

Yes I also agree, the sitemap was submitted about a week or so earlier so yes I'm sure that had the most to do with it, but my point is that the algos 'seemed' to be favoring words that were ALSO favored by the Adwords algos.

I know it's probably nothing, but you have to wonder. What I notice is that most SEO 'experts' never really think of Google as a 'business' and disregard anything of this nature, because they don't believe the all mighty Google would ever resort to it. I say it's time to open your eyes people. Aaron Wall made a great statement when he explained HIS theory on SEO and Google's business model.

Never dismiss ANYTHING is my point :)

Maybe I'm missing something here but what is so weird?

You didn't rank well before, presumably because you didn't do SEO on your pages. You now decide to do SEO. Obviously, you did a great job as you are now ranking well and getting traffic.

At the same time, you start an Adwords campaign. So you are now getting traffic from two fronts. It makes sense that you used keywords in Adwords that you also used for SEO purposes.

I don't understand what you find weird and why you are surprised.

Shouldn't dismiss his initial hypothesis. Google could have boosted his search engine rankings on the back of an adwords campaign. Something similar happened to me and I had done all the seo stuff weeks before, so there is no connection. I think an adwords campaign not only gives you ppc traffic but also boosts search engine rankings.

Think of the extra high pr link backs from the adword ads. Maybe that would explain the rank increase :)

The reality is that a PPC campaign improves the chances of Google indexing your page faster.
    Maybe this is the explanation.

Again, I'm not really making ANY statements I just don't ever dismiss the possibilities of Adword's algos somehow influencing the algos for their regular search. In other words... imagine if they purposely gave people using their Adwords program more 'credit' (for lack of a better word) for their content.

The 'wierd' part was that they were the SAME words on both. On the SEO side I started getting visits for 'keyword #1', but it wasn't until AFTER my score on the Adwords side for 'keyword #1' jumped to a 10/10 quality score.

I know that their algos are 'similar', but I just wonder how they tie into each other (if at all)
