For my keywordkeyword.co.uk domain. Its a reasonably popular search (50k+) according to OVT but dont seem to be getting that much traffic.

What would you say the best way of jumping 1/2 places up to the 1st page would be?

    Off page linking optimisation?

    In-site keyworded content?

    Something else...?

    Thanks in advance!

Do both. It's not an "either...or" decision you are making.

Write good content and get good links.

I've experienced some success pushing keywords to Google's first page by:

    • Targeting those keywords as anchor text during directory submission.

    • Using those keywords strategically in internal links on my website. Those keywords would be the anchor text in the links pointing to the page you are trying to score higher in the SERPs.

    • On-page SEO, including:
    (1) Judicious bolding and italicizing of the keyword(s), but not overdone.
    (2) Being sure to get the keywords into the title and, if possible, the URL of the page you are emphasizing.

Interesting. Never concentrated on this before.

Will give that a go too.

    Done that for sure! ;)

Thanks Jim, all sounds logical. Fingers crossed this will give me the boost I need. :)

    Anybody else?

I would suggest you to get few 3 -4 high quality backlinks preferably PR5 -6 and highly relevant. Remember the word relevant. Only relevant links help , this is what is my experience

I would suggest a directory submission to high PR quality sites will do the trick for you. Everything else can be followed later.
