I just got approved for a new .edu blog at PR7 school, and was wondering what I could do to maximize it to its full potential. Thanks in advance for all your suggestions.
to start, you can write something really nice about my site and post on your blog. once you have done that, we will move to round 2
Thanks Sultan for the tip, but what if we write that really nice recommendations in the later rounds. Also, I have a matching .edu email address, any benefits other than being able to get a discount on buying MS Office?
Well, you have two options: #1 - Use it as your main site, and start fresh. Make sure to work your keywords into the URL they provide you, if possible. Since it's be on an edu domain, make sure to make it seem as legit as possible. (Nice articles with in-depth information on your niche, etc) #2 - Or, you could use it as a micro site, where you basically make posts on it, build up links to it, and interlink it with some type of project you are already working on, right now. That way, you're other main site (usually referred to as your money site..) will be ranking higher, because of the edu links. Best of luck, Alex.
Thanks for the advice and the luck vk3, after some thought I think I am going to choose what is behing door number 2.
You can make your blog SEO friendly, start writing good content daily and beef it up until you have something to sell.
Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I can't really sell any items on this blog as it is against the schools terms of use so it has to be used to promote other sites. So now I have a follow up question for you guys. Which strategy would you recommend. 1. Buying tons of backlinks to my blogs (I realized they allow me to create an unlimited number of blogs) in order to increase their PR and then use my blogs new and improved PR juice to promote my "money sites" 2. I've received a couple of request asking if I would be interested in exchanging links, however what if we took that a little further. What if I partnered up with a couple of you guys to build up the PR of one/some of these blogs and then shared the PR juice. While doing some research of the other blogs hosted by the University, there are several PR6, PR7 and PR8. So the potential for growth is there and for powerful keyword links. Again...thanks again for your thoughts and suggestions.
I would be up for the involvement in this kind of scheme. How much do you know about the C Class IP for these blogs? Do you know if they are hosted on different IPs? If they are then this scheme would be worth its weight in gold. However it is not the be all and end all since I know people build 100s of sites on blogger and link to one cash cow site, however these sites are on their own subdomain which makes a massive difference therefore is the site on sub-domains or sub-directories? I suggest build mini sites on a particular broad niche i.e. entertainment ->Music -> Classical. You need about 10 posts on each one, build 30 - 40 of these and get some backlinks to the site and to internal linking and finally link them to the cash cow site. It will be a killer, trust me! good luck
Publish unique content and place some in-content backlinks to your money making sites 1-2 backlinks per article, not more. Publish some articles without backlinks as well. At least that what I would do!
If you are looking at this over the long term rather than a quick initial gain you could look at building a decent blog, with relevant interesting content. Once you've got that up and the PR is good you could sell links for $$$'s or use adwords. Or you could 'rent' out your blog to a trusted person and let me run it for a fee!
Content is king... so start with a good and quality full content.... then you can start submission in free directory and some good articles sites.. Cheers!
You ought to have some great articles on your site and then you can maybe sell some links space for a price. Good Luck.
I am thinking since I can create unlimited blogs I am going to experiment a bit. So far I have created a couple of blogs. One is a travel blog that I am populating with travel content and am in the process of slowly building backlinks to raise its PR. I've started linking these blog post to destination specfic "money sites" with adsense ads. The other blog I started is a general niche which I am trying to populate now with content and I am thinking of paying for a backlinking service to get this one off the ground. I figure if it gets banned by G I can just chalk this one up as a loss and move on and create another. I am kind of limited by the fact that I can't promote a product as it is against the TOS, so I can either use these blogs to draw traffic and send them to my money sites, build them up to provide high PR edu links to my money sites (trading or selling links as the opportunity arises). But as I mentioned before...I am open to partnering with a good group of people that can help maximize this to its full potential, so that way we all win.
