With a reseller account you can host "unlimited" sites under that account. This means if you have 5 sites you can host them all under your reseller account, you just go to your main CP and create and an account for site.com other for supersite.com etc.

Its much more easier and cheaper to manage several sites.

And if you want you can also sell some space to others. ;)

And yes if you have a dedicate server you have full control over the server (most cases you must manage it, update, secure it etc - or you can wire someone to do it for you).

Hosting - ideal for 1 or 2 sites

Reseller - ideal for 3 or more (medium) sites

VPS - for medium sites that use alot of BW and some resources

Dedicated server - Greate for 1 or more sites that use a lot of BW and resources.

Site5 (for larger sites) and ResellerZoom (for smaller sites) works for me.

For my local (Malaysia) hosting, it's Exabytes.

I tried emailing hostgator. got no response. you would think they wanted a private server account. is this typical of their service.

My vote is for siteground.com after trying many over the years including site5, which was good at first, but then started having growing pains.

I've been with siteground.com for six months without any downtime and the add ons -cPanel, AWstats, HORDE, etc. worked 100% of the time. You even have an Account Manager (I host only one site) who checks in with you from time to time to see if you're happy! Support responds in minutes in English you can understand. Please note, I have nothing against other languages - but I expect to communicate in the language I used to sign up.

If you sign up for a year, the annual cost is $60. Personally, I feel more comfortable going month-to-month with any host so if things change, I can skidaddle. Monthly cost is $8.95. Transfer 500GB!

If you own several sites, then I'd recommend getting yourself a Reseller account. Otherwise, a service that provides domain Add-ons will suffice. You'll be able to host several domains in one hosting account with those...

ok i thinking about bluehost, hostgator, or scourceforge.

hostgator sent sort a "i don't care if i get your business" email.

scourceforge was super fast replying but i read some complaints on them.

bluehosts blog seemed cool but they don't have reseller accounts.

:D It's probably coz they have a lot of clients... so losing a potential client does not hurt them :p

    Good luck on your search!

I went and did a comparison between the top three. Out of hostgator, 5site and blue host, I would have to say Blue Host definitely wins. Just look at how much space they give you + free domain name. That's so clutch.

yes, that's true. however, if you just want to host sites for yourself, add-on domains is a good option - having a reseller account is the way to go should you decide to host for your clients/friends. at one-time, I was hosting several directories of my own with a single hosting account with add-on domains option and it saved me a lot on hosting costs.:)
