OK, I bought a domain, now what?

So once you register a new domain, how do you know if anyone will buy it as is? And if not, what can you do to improve on it to increase the value, especially without a great deal of internet knowledge?

You could build a website for it. What domain did you buy?

Build a site... Get links to the site... Optimize the site for SEO... Monetize the site...

Try posting the domain name in the domain appraisals section, hopefully you'll get some decent feedback on it's value...

You could ask in the appraisals section to get some idea of the domain's undeveloped value. Most domains aren't really worth any more than the registration fee undeveloped however, unless they represent a very common word or phrase or are otherwise obviously desirable.

You can improve the value by building a site on it that relates to the domain name and promoting it so that it gets traffic. How to do this rather depends on the domain, but a current favourite on DP seems to be to write a blog based around the topic of the domain name.

I guess I need to ask how to deveop a site. I have a website I use for family and personal stuff, which I built from scratch with HTML, on page at a time (several years ago). I know there's more straightforward ways to build a basic website - I'm just lost...

For a basic site you could try using WordPress. If your web host has Fantastico in it's cpanel it's a very easy installation. Best of luck!

you may get your hosting. At ebay, I found a few good deals and I managed to subscribe 1 year unlimited space/bandwidth at $9.99.
